Dr Kavita Rasiah | Consultant Paediatrician

ABN 51 044 375 709
I am both a Specialist Paediatrician and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I welcome the full and diverse spectrum of paediatric medical and developmental problems and enjoy seeing young people of all ages, from newborns to adolescents.
My particular interests include
· paediatric infectious diseases
· neonatal medicine
· developmental and behavioural paediatrics
I am an accredited paediatrician with Burnside War Memorial Hospital and very much enjoy caring for newborns in the maternity unit. I provide follow-up care for these babies in my practice for developmental and health checks and for any concerns that may arise.
Contacting or booking appointments with me:
My reception team, Prosper Paediatrics, can be contacted during business hours throughout the week. They can advise me of or manage, on my behalf, any issues or requests and book appointments.
Unfortunately, due to extremely long wait times and extremely tight bookings, I have closed my books to all new patient referrals except
-neonate referrals at Burnside Hospital.
-referrals, if I can accept them, sent via Healthlink (or Argus, Medical Objects or Referral Net) concerning
paediatric infectious diseases; or
significant or serious clinical concerns and
a pressing or urgent need for specialist paediatrician assessment, diagnosis and management regarding
medical concerns in infants, children and adolescents.
infant, toddler & preschooler developmental concerns.

Consulting days:
Except when taking leave, or on public holidays, I generally consult in my private practice at the Toorak Gardens rooms on Mondays and Tuesdays in most months.
My professional roles, training and experience
I balance my private practice with a public appointment in the area of infectious diseases in SA health (CDCB) and with a busy family life.
I trained for my Fellowship in General Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases with the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital and was admitted into the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Paediatric Division, in 2012.
Before moving to Adelaide with my young family, I attained my initial Fellowship in the UK’s MRCPCH (Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics at Child Health) following training in the UK and some initial training in India.
I can consult fluently in English and various Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.
My Neonatal care practice.
I am accredited for neonatal care at Burnside Hospital and love this part of my practice. Let your obstetrician know if you would like your newborn referred to me. I can be booked for C-section deliveries most days of the week.
The hospital midwifery teams will contact me at any time if needed about any issues with my neonates. I work closely with and share cover amongst the other neonate paediatricians to ensure that we can attend any newborns needing care at any time. Otherwise, I see my babies during my Burnside Hospital rounds each day.
If your baby is referred to my care, I will be on-call around the clock for their health needs. I will keep in touch with the midwives and I (or my covering locum) will attend them at any time if needed. I meet you and your baby and conduct a detailed Newborn Check after birth, and then, if there are no issues, I will see your baby for at least a brief check and any needed management each day during their stay in the hospital. If there are any significant concerns, I may attend more often, or admit your baby to the nursery for additional nursing and medical care. I will provide a detailed Discharge Check before you take your baby home. In this attendance, I make sure to allow time for you to discuss any issues or concerns with me. I also take you through various steps in the follow-up care I recommend for your baby.
More information about neonatal specialist care is provided here.
My neonatal care fee gap schedule:
The gap is the portion of my fees not covered by standard Medicare rebates or, if for admitted care, your health fund’s remittance.
Most families are eligible for substantial additional Medicare Safety Net rebates, which further reduce these standard gaps. Please contact my Accounts or Practice Manager for further information.
The maximum out-of-pocket cost for your account will be $600. ($850 max for twins)
This gap may apply where, during your baby’s stay in the hospital, an attendance to your baby is required for
an out-of-hours planned C-section.
other unplanned urgent need for assessment and care.
Families should budget for this in case this kind of attendance is needed.
Otherwise, if no unplanned attendance is needed during your baby’s stay, your maximum gap will be
$500 where initial attendance to baby is at an in-hours, planned elective procedure (e.g. elective C-section) or
$350, where all attendances to your baby after delivery are routine or within normal rounds.
More details about my Neonatal Care Invoicing are available here.
