Dr Rebecca Holst | Consultant Paediatrician

MBBS DCH FRACP | ABN 62 978 234 528

I am a General Paediatrician who enjoys helping newborns and children of a variety of ages and developmental stages. My particular interests include developmental delay and neonatal medicine, as well as the full range of common general paediatric concerns such as asthma and constipation. I am a member of the Neurodevelopmental and Behavioural Paediatric Society of Australia.

Contacting or booking appointments with me:

My reception team, Prosper Paediatrics, can be contacted with any requests during business hours throughout the week.

The Burnside Hospital midwifery team will contact me or a locum when they are covering for me, at any time, regarding any issues with the neonates under my care.

New patient referrals-wait times, referral requirements & capacity

I accept referrals of newborns at Burnside Hospital (and very occasionally at Calvary North Adelaide). I am heavily booked with long wait times for non-urgent patients.

New Patient Inquiries:

Please use the Appointment Request Form and refer to the information about wait times, referral requirements and capacity and new patient intake here. I am heavily booked with long non-urgent wait times.

For GPs and other healthcare providers, I prefer ELECTRONIC MESSAGING wherever possible.

My consulting days

Except when taking leave, rostered for my public roles, or on public holidays, I consult at Prosper Paediatrics, Toorak Gardens, on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

I see my referred neonates in my hospital rounds and share cover for unplanned but necessary neonate attendances when possible. Your obstetrician can book me to attend C-section deliveries during the week, subject to the above constraints.

My reception and administrative team

I have engaged Service Provider, Prosper Paediatrics to provide and manage the administrative services and consulting facilities I need to help me provide the best clinical care I can.

Prosper Paediatrics provides reception services to my practice. Please contact them about bookings and any other matters. It, through its staff, systems and procedures, will reliably and promptly ensure I am kept informed, see any requests, questions, letters and reports. They take care of the administrative side of things so I am able to concentrate on clinical care.

Prosper Paediatrics and their reception staff prioritise the responsive, sensitive care I want from them for my patients. The company and its staff are experts in private paediatric practice administration, including all relevant aspects of Medicare, NDIS, private health, billing, rebates and all the other aspects of paediatric specialist care for young people

My Neonatal care fee gap schedule:

The gap is the portion of my fees not covered by standard Medicare rebates or, if for admitted care, your health fund’s remittance.

Detailed information about neonatal care in the hospital is here, new baby follow-up care is here, and neonatal billing is here. Please contact my Accounts or Practice Manager for further information, if needed.

The maximum out-of-pocket cost for your account will be $750 ($850 max for twins).

  • This gap may apply where, during your baby’s stay in the hospital, an attendance to your baby is required for

    • an out-of-hours planned C-section (before 8 am or after 5 pm).

    • an unplanned C-section or other urgent need for assessment and care.

  • Families should budget for this in case attendance of this kind is needed.

Otherwise, if no unplanned or out-of-hours attendance is needed during your baby’s stay, your maximum gap will be

  • $550 where initial attendance to your baby is at a planned elective procedure (e.g. elective C-section) within the hours of 8.00 am to 5.00 pm or

  • $380, where all attendances to your baby after delivery are routine or within normal rounds.

If you have concerns about settling the entire invoice in one payment, an itemised payment plan may be agreed upon, but first, enrolling your baby promptly in Medicare will be important.

I have established a fee schedule to assist families in planning for their care costs and bill accordingly, at my discretion.

More information is available about neonatal care, here; newborn follow-up care, here and neonatal billing, here

My professional roles, training and experience:

I was born and raised in South Australia and studied at the University of Adelaide’s medical school, including a year spent learning in the Barossa Valley. I completed my general paediatric training at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital and Port Augusta Hospital before admission as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2021.

As a proud mother of twin girls, I understand the challenges that come with parenting young children and navigating the medical system. I want to be a kind and approachable paediatrician and am passionate about supporting children and their families.

In addition to my private practice, I am a staff specialist at the Lyell McEwin Hospital and teach at the Adelaide University Medical School.
